Coast Ultra Xtreme

Coast Ultra Xtreme Oct 9th to 13th

The Coast Ultra Xtreme is a new UK 5-day ultra-running challenge born out of the passionate team at VOTWO and an endurance coach and athlete. Disappointed at the cancellation and postponements of Marathon De Sables, UTMB and many more similar ultra-endurance we have created this new event at short notice alongside the Atlantic Coast Challenge so that athletes have the chance to channel all the training and hard work already done in preparation for a 5-day event.

The event is presented by the UK’s leading ultra-running and adventure retailer and the spiritual home of multi-day racers.

The 2020 Coast Ultra Xtreme route starts near Padstow, passing Lands End and heading up and around the bottom of the Cornish Peninsula finishing in Coverack. Each of the first 3 days covers approximately 42-46km each, with day 4 approx. 60km and day 5 finishes with approximately 28km.  The first 3 days run alongside Votwo's existing Atlantic Coast Challenge.

The event will be implementing a host of social distancing and other precautions for 2020.

Wild and rugged. Steep climbs and descents that test your concentration as well as your strength. Each day is unique with its own individual challenges and famous landmarks to add to the experience. The course follows the South West Coast path which is marked by the Acorn sign. It's a very obvious well-worn route. You will be issued with course maps and the emphasis is on self-navigation. In most cases, it's as easy as keeping the sea on your right and the land on your left.

    Checkpoints (CPs):

These are spaced out along the course each day. Present Covid restrictions have limited the normal CP locations available to the event. Different landowners have pursued different policies on this and we are working within the rules for each location.

All the CPs will be stocked with Cliff bar product (Shots, gels and blocks), snacks and drinks. CP locations will be marked on the GPS tracking routes and CP close times and locations will be issued to you along with your actions on the emergency card. The event medics will be available at the CP. CPs will follow strict protocols in 2020 due to Covid-19 and details will be shared in pre-event communication.

Each day you will be instructed to meet at the event HQ and then be transported to the start. Once you join Votwo on the event you can leave your car at the event HQ and take advantage of the Votwo minibusses. On completion of the days run you will be transported back to the event HQ.

Face masks and hand sanitization will be mandatory on all event transport and issued by the driver to participants.

    Medical assistance:

The route is covered by the medical support team.

All participants will be required to self certify a COVID health check prior to arrival at the event and certify both being clear of symptoms and not being required to self-isolate for any other reason such as having come into contact with persons suspect or infected with COVID.

We are currently assessing how the event catering will operate. The onsite restaurant normally provides good quality meals in the HQ area. This might change to a takeaway service with regards to COVID 19. More information will be published in the event participant information. Self-catering is certainly an option, a supermarket and other shops are located very close to the event HQ.
