 Introduction:

This is the postponed from April 2020 100km foot race. The route and event detail has been updated. The event has been amalgamated into the Atlantic Coast Challenge event.

Complete the distance by walking, running or crawling, pitting your mental and physical prowess against some of the most scenic coastline in Britain. Votwo has teamed up with Geo Tracks. This system provides runners with a personal GPS tracker and navigation mobile phone app allowing them to accurately navigate the course and receive real-time positions of the other participants and themselves.

    Pre-event information pack:

    A link to the 2020 North Coast Ultra event information will be posted below this text nearer the event date. All entrants are reminded to read the event information. It is a condition of entry to this event that you participate according to the instructions in the event information. We do not send any event information or confirmations by post.

    Navigation:

    The primary means of navigation on the North Coast Ultra is with the Geo Tracks system. Each participant is issued with a GPS tracker which when used in combination with a smartphone app provides a highly accurate navigation tool.   

     Visit the Geo Tracks website here for more information. Don't forget its a good idea to download the app before the event starts! The event ID number is 506 for the 100km

    Terrain:

    Wild and rugged. Steep climbs and descents that test your concentration as well as your strength. The course follows the South West Coast path which is marked by the Acorn sign. It's a very obvious well-worn route. The emphasis is on self-navigation. In most cases, it's as easy as keeping the sea on your right and the land on your left.

    Event HQ:

    Checkpoints (CPs): (COVID update)

    CP's have now changed to 'Water Stations' and are spaced at approx 20 KM intervals, this is partly due to landowner restrictions and social distancing implementation. All event nutrition is issued at event registration and to be carried by the participant.  

    Water stations provided water and coke. Participants to fill there own drinks bladders. 

    A minimum speed of 5km per hour needs to be maintained. Checkpoint cut off times will be published in the event information pack. 20 hours in total to complete the 100km. Any late runners will be retired from the event and picked up by the DNF bus.

    Transportation:

    From HQ / Event car park you will be transported to the start. This takes approx 1hr 45 mins. 

    Medical assistance:

    The route is covered by our medical support. Please use the supplied phone numbers on your actions on sheet or report at a checkpoint. 

    Nutrition: 

    Provided by Cliff Bar. Each participant receives a nutrition bag at event registration to utilize on the route.   

    Kit list:

    Whilst taking part in the event it is compulsory for you to carry the following equipment. If you don’t have this kit you will not be allowed to participate in the event. We will be enforcing the policy of no kit, no run. If the worst happens to you any of the below kit could really make the difference to yours and other's survival and wellbeing.           

    Please note: This kit list has been updated from previous events. Updates highlighted in red.        

    Essential kit (to be carried on your person or in your rucksack)

    • Face mask (for wearing on the event transport)
    • A small dispenser of hand sanitizer
    • Issued maps for that day in an easily accessible place (App, gps device or paper maps)
    • Useful numbers, checkpoint timings, and lost procedure  
    • Whistle  
    • Compass (make sure your compass is attached to you or your kit)  
    • Waterproof top  
    • Long trousers or tights 
    • Gloves (waterproofed in a plastic freezer bag)  
    • Hat (waterproofed in a plastic freezer bag) 
    • A chocolate bar or similar  
    • Small torch with spare batteries  
    • 2 liters of water or other drink, keep a minimum of 400ml spare 
    • Issued food for the day
    • Issued wrist 'bib number'
    • A lightweight piece of warm clothing (waterproofed)  
    • A fully charged working mobile phone (waterproofed)  
    • A notepad and pencil with your name and your mobile number written on it (waterproofed)

    You must carry all the kit on the kit list. No exceptions. It may be on your person or rucksack. No kit = No run.
